Terrifying mummy’s recipe for Halloween. Ingredients
- Turkey sausages (as many as mummies you want to make)
- turkey bacon
- cheese to your liking
- puff pastry
- A little ketchup
- a little blue food coloring
- a boiled egg
Simple Halloween recipe with sausages: step by step
- Take a sausage and make a cut from one end to the other on one side. Be careful not to go all the way through the sausage as you could make a small mess.
- Fill this cut with cheese. You can choose the type of cheese that you like best according to the intensity you are looking for: mozzarella, cheddar… Cut a small piece and insert it into the sausage or, if you are using grated cheese, insert it directly into the sausage slit.
- Take the turkey bacon and wrap the sausage and cheese with it. Leave a space at the top, because you will need a hole for the mummy’s face.
- It is time to get down to the dough and take the puff pastry. You can buy it ready-made in supermarkets or you can cook it yourself with flour, water, butter and salt.
- Cut long, thin strips. Don’t worry too much if they don’t look exactly the same because it will give your mummy a more terrifying touch.
- Wrap the sausage with the puff pastry strips and use your fingers to make them stick well. Leave a space at the top unwrapped for the mummy’s face. Use all the strips you consider necessary to cover the sausage as you want.
- Once ready, place it on a baking tray. You can use a little cooking spray or waxed paper to prevent sticking, but it’s not completely necessary because the puff pastry has enough butter.
- Repeat this procedure with as many sausages as mummies you want to create.
- Put the tray in the oven that will have to be preheated to 350 degrees Fahrenheit or 180 degrees Celsius. The time may vary a bit depending on the puff pastry you use, but it will take more or less between 12 and 20 minutes. Go checking the oven so they don’t stay raw or burn.
- All that remains is the decoration! To make the eyes of your mummy, take some ketchup sauce and add a few drops of the blue food coloring. You will get a dark purple or black color. Paint the eyes directly with a toothpick on the sausage or take a small piece of boiled egg to make the white part of the eye and paint the pupil over it. Also use this sauce to glue the eyes to the face. And don’t forget your mouth!
- You can change the ingredients according to your taste. For example, you can use a sheet of ham or lettuce instead of bacon to wrap the sausages if you want a slightly healthier Halloween recipe. If you don’t like cheese too much, you can stuff the sausage with anything else: fried tomato, roasted peppers… It all depends on your tastes and those of your guests.
